Former JSB Players Named College Captains
Former Junior Swamp Bats players Erick Zecha of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Jack Derwin or Oberlin were named co-captains of their respective college baseball teams for 2020.
Zecha, a senior right-handed pitcher, has made 31 career appearances (18 starts) for the Engineers. He has also pitched the past two summers for the Keene SwampBats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Derwin, a pitcher and middle infielder, began his career as an infielder at Oberlin before taking on two-way duties for this season.
“Jack and Erick have been key members of our program and really reflect our mission of developing young adults as people and players,” says Jim Fennell, president of the Junior Swamp Bats. “Jack was on our very first team and Erick joined us the next year.
“It’s not surprising to see them both find their way into captain roles. They are quality people who we’re proud to say are part of the JSB family.”
